Dr. Przybylski’s presentation will be on the distinct and tumultuous periods in the European history when Polish patriotism and victory over the enemies saved Poland and neighbor countries and at times even rescued the whole Europe. He will also describe the threats to freedom of European countries caused by Teutonic Order, Sweden, Ottoman Turks, and Soviet Union.

In 1608, Polish master craftsmen arrived in Jamestown to help establish industries and
businesses in the new British Colony. However, Poles were not granted the same freedom as
their fellow Englishmen which led to the first Polish Suffrage movement.

Donna Chmara describes the loss of her home in Eastern Europe during World War II, her
family’s deportation to a Nazi labor camp, and their eventual arrival in the United States. Relying
on historic sources, interviews with twenty survivors and personal experience, she focuses on the
danger of identifying solely with a group or ideology rather than with the fact of our shared
humanity.
