The first Texas Polonia Youth Day at the Polish Heritage Center in Panna Maria, was held on Saturday, April 12th, at the Polish Heritage Center. It was a vibrant celebration of Polish customs, traditions, and community.

The late Bishop John W. Yanta’s vision of inspiring and educating today’s youth while fostering a deep appreciation for Polish heritage came alive, on this special day. Buses arrived early at the Polish Heritage Center, bringing students, parents, and members of various Polish organizations from all over Texas. These groups included the Dallas Polish School, Texas A&M Polish Association, Austin Polish School, UT Austin Polish Club, Houston Polish School, and parishioners from Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston. The day began with a welcome by Aloys Notzon, President and Chairman of the PHC Board, under the famous oak tree where the first immigrants celebrated Mass. To follow that tradition, Mass was officiated by special guest, Father Krzysztof Olejnik, Superior General of the Society of Christ Fathers, and Father Wieslaw Iwaniec, Pastor of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Guests then walked over to the PHC to enjoy traditional Polish dances performed by the Wawel Polish Dancers from Houston. Visitors then met at the Panna Maria Diner to enjoy a delicious barbeque lunch prepared by Partners Catering. The afternoon was filled with activities:  tours of the Polish Heritage Center, the Church, St. Joseph’s Museum & School, along with a pierogi demonstration, and multiple Polish crafts. Over 250 attendees gathered to experience a day filled with prayer, singing, dancing, and delicious food. Plans are underway to make this event biennial.

Thanks to the Polish Heritage Center’s Director, Alice Poore and dedicated and talented staff, attendees enjoyed exceptional hospitality, making the Inaugural Texas Polonia Youth Day a special celebration, highlighting Polish culture and ensuring its rich heritage continues to be cherished by future generations.
